Damage Control! Taming the Tongue

3/29/2015

Comments

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit (NIV).

James 3:6

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell (NIV).

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

James 3:8

But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison (NIV).

1 Peter 3:10

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile (NIV).

Above, you find scriptures that deal with taming the tongue. The tongue is a small portion of the body; however it is a deadly weapon. Using the tongue for evil can cause calamity, death, heartaches, headaches, and dissention. Everything God made was for good; therefore use your tongue for:

GOSPEL instead of GOSSIP

PRASIE instead of PERSERCUTION

HOPE instead of HATE

WORSHIP instead of WHINING

EVANGELISM instead of EVIL

Heavenly Father,

I pray for self-control over whatever comes out of my mouth. God, every time I open my mouth let my words be acceptable to you.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

I don’t need validation; I belong to God!

Galatians 1:10

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (NIV).

As a single female with a child, I often felt as if I did not fit in society.  I felt as if I was left out of couple activities or activities with my friends who were single with no kids. It seemed as everyone was living their lives to the fullest by going on vacations or having dinner with friends. However, a theme park or a trip to a restaurant with a playground was adventurous weekend for me.

Being lonely would lead to emotional shopping (USING CREDIT CARDS) to attempt to ease the pain of loneliness or the pain of being validated as a person. I would purchase items to seek the approval of others. I wanted to “fit in” badly.  I would spend money I did not have or waste valuable time worrying about what others thought about me.

Then one day in 2007 the Lord spoke to me as I was on an emotional shopping binge. He spoke with a small still voice and said “You do not need validation from anyone. You are mine and that’s all that matter.” It was then I realized I am His child and nothing else matters.

I don’t need a designer handbag, a new car every year, a pair of designer shoes, or a lot of people around me to validate who I am or whose I am.  It was that day I decided to quit worrying about what people said or thought about me.

I learned that seeking validation or approval from other people causes you to spend money they do not have, spending money you could be saving, and lose sight of being thankful for what God has done in your life. Stop trying to keep up “with the Joneses” and be who God created you to be. The scripture says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (NIV. 1st Peter 5:8). Seeking approval or validation from man can cause calamity and strife in your life.  You don’t need validation because Jesus validated you a long time ago when he hung on the cross for you!

Heavenly Father,

I am so glad you paid the price for me on Calvary and I don’t need anyone else to validate me.  I am your child and that’s all that matter.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

I am at the end of my rope and I am about to break!

Psalm 77:1-20

We have all heard someone say, “I am at my wits end or I am at the end of the rope!” This means the person has reached their limit to dealing with a particular problem or person.  Sometimes these sentences are used when someone is at their wits end with a person, job, ministry, or a relationship.

You have cried out to God, but He appears to be silent. This is not a comfortable place for anyone during their life.  They pray, but no answer.  They fast, but no answer.  They worship and adore God, but no answer. You are wondering where is God and how long will He be silent in answering your prayers to the situation

In this particular scripture, Aspah has cried out to God, but God seems to be silent. Aspah has lifted up his hands and surrendered, but still no response from God. He cried and prayed so much until he had no words to speak.

We all have had a period in our lives when we wondered where God was in the midst of our storm. We wondered if God had forgotten about us. It is during these times we must trust God when we can’t trace Him. Therefore, know that when God is silent, he is working on your behalf and making you rely on Him for everything.

Heavenly Father,

I must remind myself that even when you are silent you are working on my behalf. This is your way of making me trust You and only You.  God, when I cannot trace You I will trust You.

Use the roof, when the devil blocks the door!

Mark 2:1-6

And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Do you feel like your door has been blocked? We all have been in a place where it seems as if our plans, visions, dreams, or goals were not going as we had intended. Well, I come today to serve notice that nothing can stop what God has ordained to happen in your life. The scripture Psalm 139:13-14 states, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb”. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well”.  God ordained our lives in our mother’s womb and there is no devil that can stop blessings that God has for you.

These four men are evidence of a block doorway will not hinder them from taking their paralytic man to be healed.  Since they could not enter in the doorway, they thought out of the box and used the roof. Although the door was blocked, God touched the minds of the four men to strategize another way in. Jesus recognized the four men’s faith to get around the crowd.  It was the faith of the four men that not only allowed Jesus to heal the man, but allowed Jesus to forgive his sins.  The forgiveness of the sins was more valuable than the healing of the paralysis.

Use the roof, if devil tries to block your door from your blessing.  Pray harder, fast longer, shout louder and dance harder because it only makes you stronger and wiser. At the name of Jesus, every demon must flee.

Heavenly Father,

I refuse to allow the devil to block my blessings and steal my victory. I declare and decree victory in the blood of Jesus.  Jesus you are a strong tower! A mighty battle axe and in You I will trust.

In the name of the Wonderful Savior,

Amen!

This Mess Will Turn Into A Mircacle

Philippians 3:12-16 (NIV)

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

15 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.

16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

I am exhausted! I have been praying and fasting all week because of this situation.  I have been beaten up all week by this parent.  “God, I need you and I trust you will handle this situation!” “God, why are you allowing this to happen to me?” “Why have become a target for this parent to deface my character?”

As an educator, you are sometime a target for parents’ complaints. Parents can often times make your job harder by complaining that you are not doing your job to their satisfaction.  Not realizing the hours you spend preparing lessons to enhance their child’s knowledge. No matter what you do, they are still not satisfied. Have you ever felt like that on your job?  Have you ever felt like you best was not good enough?

The parent not only complained about my expertise as a teacher, but she defaced me in the public. Although the parent requested that her child be taken out my class, I pressed forward and continued to give the other students the best I had.

Paul tells us that no of us are perfect. He states this twice in verse 12. Paul let us know that none of us have it altogether.   This parent was looking for a perfect teacher.  That I am not, however I serve a perfect God.

Since this situation has taken place, I realized God used this parent’s actions to increase my faith and strengthen my prayer life. The increased faith and trust in God has allowed him to shower me with his blessings over and over again. This mess has caused me to keep my eyes on His ministry. Therefore, I thank the parent for her complaints. Her mess has caused miracles for me!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Though my enemies come to attack me, I trust You to cover me.  Lord, I am not perfect, but You are. I love You because You said that You will make my enemies my footstool.  Thank You for your protection.

In Jesus Name,

Amen!
