Deuteronomy 1:6-8
“Back at Horeb, God, our God, spoke to us: “You’ve stayed long enough at this mountain. On your way now. Get moving. Head for the Amorite hills, wherever people are living in the Arabah, the mountains, the foothills, the Negev, the seashore—the Canaanite country and the Lebanon all the way to the big river, the Euphrates. Look, I’ve given you this land. Now go in and take it. It’s the land God promised to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their children after them.” Message (Msg) Copyright © 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson For two years Israel stayed at Mount Horeb and became complacent because life was pleasant. Israel ate well, rest well, and lived a peaceful life. However, Mouth Horeb, the Holy Mountain, was not the destination of Israel’s journey, but part of their journey to the Promise Land. They had to move out to fulfill the promise of God. Mount Horeb was a place of instruction and preparation NOT their destination. The spirit of complacency often causes us to get “stuck” in a comfort zone and causes us to miss blessings God has for us. Therefore, don’t get stuck! Trust God to lead you as you explore life and try new adventures. It took Israel to leave Mount Horeb to get to the Promise Land. Is God telling you to move for you to experience your “Promise Land”? Heavenly Father, Please don’t allow the spirit of complacency block the blessings You have for me. Give me a listening ear as You guide my footsteps along this journey. Your voice and only Your voice will I listen to! In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen! Copyrighted 2017 by Edwina D. Perrin. All rights reserved. |
