PHILIPPIANS 3:12-14
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (NIV). The Apostle Paul is teaching the Philippians about pressing, pushing, and praying towards the finish line. Paul told the Philippians do not quit achieving their goals and do not let their past hold them back. We all have a past! Your past is not your destiny and your past does not define who you are. Just because you have made mistakes does not mean you are not worthy of the blessings God has in store for you. Press, push, and pray yourself towards the finish line. As I write this devotion, I think about my son who is an avid golfer. Golf is a mental game. However, when my son is having a mental breakdown at the beginning of his game he does not quit. He presses, pushes, and prays for his mental state to be restored to where he can play his game. Achieving your goal is a mental game. Therefore, when you are having a mental breakdown, press, push, and pray your way to the finish line. Studying the word and knowing that God has you in His hands will allow you to persevere. If you want to see the outcome of the race, press, push, and pray your way to the finish line. While on Spring Break last week, I did not complete half of what was on my “To Do List”. I was tired in my spirit, my soul, my mind, & my body. I was so drained mentally and spiritually that I did not even post a devotion last week (forgive me). Have you ever been there? Have you ever been exhausted to the point of not wanting to get out of the bed? Well, I was on last week. The daily routine of life can be overwhelming and wear on your mind, body, and soul. When we find ourselves experiencing these feelings, it is definitely time for a “Time Out”. Just as in any sport, when a coach sees that their players are worn and need a break, a “time out” is called. A “time out” was exactly what I needed to rejuvenate my mind, body, and spirit. My “time out” was a week long and I feel much better. However, I have promised myself not to wait so long to take a “time out” from life. I have learn to shut down all devices and rest! Heavenly Father, Help me to remember that I can rest in You! Father, help me to discipline myself with turning off ALL devices to rest in the bosom of Your arms. In Your word, You stated, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). God, I surrender to You to receive rest!! In Jesus Name, Amen ©2016 by Edwina Perrin. All rights reserved. In your time of reading and studying, reflect over these scriptures about the Resurrection.
Matthew 28: 1-20 Mark 16:1-14 Luke 24: 1-49 John 20: 1-23 1 Corinthians 15:1-58 As I reflect over the cross, I have no time for NEGATIVE THOUGHTS, NEGATIVE BEHAVOIR, or NEGATIVE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. When thinking about the cross, we will celebrate the goodness of Jesus and how He conquered death on our behalf. Lord, help me remember the CROSS daily.
