Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Is the foundation of your life built on the Rock (Jesus) or is it built on people or things? If your foundation is built on people or things, then your foundation is built on shaky grounds. People will let you down and things will fade away. The bible instructs us in Matthew 6:19,"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal”(NIV). Buying a new car because someone else has a new car or buying a new house because someone else bought a new house is having a shaky foundation. When people self-efficacy and self-esteem is built around things and people, their lives will fall apart when they can no longer afford those things or when those people walk out their lives. Keeping up with the Joneses is living on a shaky foundation. I am so glad that Jesus is my rock. As the hymn writer wrote, “My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.” Matthew 16:18 “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it (NIV)”. Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”,
Have you ever felt unappreciated? Have you ever felt unnoticed? Well, I have! I sometimes feel overlooked and underappreciated at work, at home, and in ministry, and at church. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because I am not married, a single parent, don’t drive a certain car, or because I don’t live in a certain neighborhood. As I was reading a devotion, I came to this particular scripture and I realized GOD KNOWS. It was there I was convicted! God whispered, “I know and that’s all that matters.” He said, “Many people spend their lives buying things they cannot afford trying to seek love and approval from man. Why seek man’s approval for an earthly life when I can give you ETERNAL LIFE?” That one statement made me realize that I was not living for man, but for God! We do not have to have fancy houses, cars, or a list of accolades behind our name for God to love us. He loves us unconditionally! He will reward us with more than what we can ever imagine! Help me to realize that my prayers will not expire while I am waiting on You to answer. While I am waiting on You, I will serve more, worship more, and study more. Waiting is a good time for me to cultivate Your word in my life. Waiting will strenghten my patience and my prayer life. God I will seek You and only You while I wait. In Jesus Name, Amen Scriptures References: Psalms 27:13-14 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalms 37:34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Isaiah 30:18 Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. Isaiah 40:31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Lamentations 3:25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Psalms 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Colossians 1:11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, James 5:7-8 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. ©2016 by Edwina Perrin. Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” As a former classroom teacher, I often heard my students (especially girls) discuss how they were not happy with their bodies. I always told them they were beautiful and unique in their own way. They would make comments such as “I am fat.” Or “I am ugly.” It would break my heart. I wish I could have shared this scripture with them. However, it did not stop me from praying for their mindset of how they felt about themselves. Everyone is unique and special in their own way. God’s creativity sets us apart from one another. God created us in His own image. Therefore, it does not matter if you are short or tall or cute in the face and thick in the waist, He loves you unconditionally. Remember you are beautiful!! Heavenly Father, I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. Thank You for all of my beautiful attributes that You created just for me. In Jesus Name, Amen. ©2016 by Edwina Perrin.
