12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (NIV).
The Apostle Paul is teaching the Philippians about pressing, pushing, and praying towards the finish line. Paul told the Philippians do not quit achieving their goals and do not let their past hold them back. We all have a past! Your past is not your destiny and your past does not define who you are. Just because you have made mistakes does not mean you are not worthy of the blessings God has in store for you. Press, push, and pray yourself towards the finish line.
As I write this devotion, I think about my son who is an avid golfer. Golf is a mental game. However, when my son is having a mental breakdown at the beginning of his game he does not quit. He presses, pushes, and prays for his mental state to be restored to where he can play his game.
Achieving your goal is a mental game. Therefore, when you are having a mental breakdown, press, push, and pray your way to the finish line. Studying the word and knowing that God has you in His hands will allow you to persevere. If you want to see the outcome of the race, press, push, and pray your way to the finish line.
